The story in numbers
Società VenetoCity Spa was set up in 1998 with the aim of constructing a pole to accommodate and represent all the points of excellence in the Veneto region, located in a strategic geographical location for north-east Italy and Europe as a whole.
After a long period of analysis, study and dialogue with local administrations, in 2005 the Veneto Region, Venice Province and the local authorities of Dolo, Pianiga and Mirano signed a "Coordinated Planning Agreement" identifying the common general interest of the proposal.
This agreement was signed by:
- Veneto Region: Vincenzo Fabris, representing the President;
- Venice Province: Davide Zoggia, as President;
- Dolo Local Authority: Claudio Bertolin, as Mayor;
- Mirano Local Authority: Gianni Fardin, as Mayor;
- Pianiga Local Authority: Antonio di Luzio, as Mayor.
In 2007, the mayors of Dolo and Pianiga approved the preliminary study for VenetoCity presented by the proposing company. After lengthy dialogue and in-depth study involving the designers appointed by Società VenetoCity and the public administrations, the VenetoCity project took shape, form and administrative completeness.
The initial interdepartmental decision-making meeting took place in February 2009, followed by nine preliminary interdepartmental meetings leading up to signature of the Programme Agreement between the Region, Venice Province and the municipalities of Dolo and Pianiga on 30 June 2011 according to the administrative procedure specified in L.R. 35/2001, art. 32.
On 30 December 2011, the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, signed the documents for final approval of VenetoCity, giving the go-ahead for the executive phase of the project. The Programme Agreement thus approved followed the publication procedure required by law and was then ratified by the local councils of Dolo and Pianiga.
During 2013 and 2014, VenetoCity will be working to draw up the complex project design, defining the contents and methods which will lead to approval of the Urban Implementation Plan and Urban Planning Convention.
By 15 July 2013, within the deadline specified in the Programme Agreement, the Urban Implementation Plan for the VenetoCity project was presented.
Work is expected to begin in 2014.
